Southern Salt Therapy for Acne

Salt & Acne

Do you suffer from acne breakouts? Either regularly or random, acne is no fun!

Have you ever noticed how your skin can appear more clear and dewy after a beach day? We invite you to consider using salt therapy to help your acne and soothe the inflammation.

Check it out…

Uses of Salt

Salt has been used for a myriad of reasons, from cooking, healing sore throats, and yes even acne. Rich in sodium, sea salt may help prevent dehydration by balancing fluid levels in the body. From healthcare to skincare, salt is a powerful tool to keep nearby. Salt is antifungal, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiseptic. Salt can kill acne forming bacteria, helping to heal and prevent breakouts while helping to smooth bumps on the skin.

Salt Exfoliation

As a micro-exfoliant, meaning it will exfoliate any dry areas or flakes, here are four ways you can begin incorporating salt in your skincare routine.

VISIT A SPA

Receive an even distribution of salt dusting to all exposed skin. A minimum of 45 minute treatment is an excellent start. It is best to cleanse your skin prior to a salt therapy treatment by removing any makeup or products that may cause barriers. This allows you to fully maximize your skin benefits from the salt treatment.

SEA SALT SPRAY

A great D-I-Y sea salt spray for home use is a second option for salt treatment for acne. Find some 100% sea salt and lukewarm water, add to a spray bottle and shake! Mist this spray over the face and body, immediately massage into your skin. Either rinse after massaging or wash off after 5-10 minutes. Follow up with a moisturizer after this treatment.

SEA SALT HONEY MASK

When mixed with sea salt, honey can increase its efficacy in treating acne scars with its natural anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. Mix 1 Tbsp of organic honey, with 1 TBsp of sea salt. Gradually add water to form a paste, apply to face and wash off after 10 minutes.

ALOE VERA MASK

The healing properties of aloe vera are quite well-known. Therefore using it with sea salt can help reduce the appearance of acne and its scars. Use 2 Tbsp of freshly harvested aloe vera gel if possible in a mixing bowl and add 1 Tbsp of sea salt with it. Combine them together well to form a smooth paste. Ensure there are no lumps or bumps in your mask formulation. Gently massage into the skin. Once the mask dries, rinse with warm water and apply a moisturizer after this treatment.
